Take the stairs. Walk on the beach. Stroll through the park. Dance. It’s now possible with the NESS L300™ Foot Drop System. The NESS L300™ is an advanced functional electrical
stimulation (FES) system that sends low-level electrical impulses to the common peroneal
nerve in your leg, stimulating muscles to lift your foot. The NESS L300™ automatically senses, while you are walking, your foot position, terrain as it changes, and your walking speed. Therefore, the NESS L300™ may assist your gait (a manner of walking) following an upper motor neuron injury or disease.

Foot drop is not a disease. It results from an injury or illness that makes foot and ankle
muscles weak or paralyzed. The following medical conditions that affect the central nervous system may also cause foot drop:
The NESS L300™ offers a variety of advantages for people with foot drop and may:

The NESS L300™ is unlike a rigid, uncomfortable ankle-foot orthosis (AFO). Once fitted, you can wear the NESS L300™ under most clothing, and with most shoes. The system consists of three small components that communicate with each other wirelessly. When you lift your heel, the Intelli-Sense Gait Sensor™ sends wireless signals to the leg cuff which stimulates the nerves to contract the muscles that lift your foot while walking.
A recent clinical study showed that the NESS L300 offers significant improvements when compared to walking without it. Another 8-week study of 15 patients who used an AFO showed that the NESS L300
significantly improved stride time compared to an AFO. And 100% of the patients in this study preferred the NESS L300 to their AFO.
1. Intelli-Sense Gait Sensor™
As patients walk, the Sensor automatically detects “heel off” and “heel on” positions, as well as different surfaces and speeds.
2. Comfortable, lightweight Leg Cuff
Inside the Cuff the electrodes are custom-positioned for each patient. The “patella locator” produces reproducible electrode placement. Plus, the Cuff is easy for patients to put on with one hand.
3. Miniature Control Unit
The hand-held Control Unit is used to turn the NESS L300™ on and off and adjust stimulation. It
interfaces with the wireless Clinician’s Programmer, enabling you to set stimulation parameters, make
adjustments that are automatically stored in the patient’s records, track gait information, and monitor
patient compliance.
The NESS L300™ has three main parts that use wireless communication to "talk" to each other. The leg cuff is a small, light-weight device that fits just below the knee and contains electrodes designed to place stimulation where it helps you most. The gait sensor attaches to your shoe and lets the leg cuff know if your heel is on the ground or in the air. The hand-held remote control lets you adjust the level of stimulation and turn the unit on and off. After the initial fitting by your clinician, you just put the cuff on and you are set to go.
